We continue our forage into the world of autumnal menswear classics, with the second part of The Autumn Wardrobe.

Knitwear

As the temperatures drop, layering is essential, and the seasonal knitwear is perfect for creating more interesting and comfy layered outfits. The varieties are endless, from chunky woollen cardigans to thinly knit cashmere crewnecks. Worn over a shirt with a tie and a pair of grey flannel trousers for a slightly more dressy style, or with a non collared shirt, a waxed jacket and denim for a relaxed but classic look. We have included just a small sample of classic knits for autumn.

The Cardigan

The chunkier version gives you a great alternative to a shirt jacket or a sport coat, to create a more homely outfit. Layer with a flannel shirt, a pair of corduroy pants and heavy brogues for a college professorial style, or with denim and loafers for a McQueen-esque rugged look.

The Turtleneck

Are you working in a creative field, or want that architect/intellectual air, ot for a turtleneck. With an all black outfit for the designer, and a brown corduroy suit for an intellectual, slightly bohemian style.

The V-Neck

Wear a thin version in a more refined yarn (merino, cashmere and the likes) for a more dressed up look. This lends itself very well to outfits including a tie, as the v shaped neck creates a perfect frame for the shirt collar and tie. It can be worn with a suit or sport coat, as well as with a more casual outfit. If you want a more country styled look, wear a shirt sleeved slipover in a fair isle pattern underneath your tweed jacket.

The Crewneck

The round necked sweater is great for both refined and Ivy styled looks. Looks great with club blazers, jackets, pretty much any autumn style you can imagine.

Autumn Footwear

A pair of quality shoes is the foundation for any good looking outfit. When autumn hits, you want to go for something with a bit more heft to it, for keeping warm and soles that prevent slipping on leaves and icy sidewalks.

Brogues

These classic country sport shoes typically sport a perforated wing tip toe. A sturdy build and rubber soles. Of course, more city styled shoes can sport these perforations as well, for example a sleeker oxford for suited looks.

You can choose your boots to match a flannel 3 piece suit, as well as a leather jacket, jeans and casual knitwear – the possibilities are endless.

There are derbies for all-year round use, but in the dusky days of autumn, a chunkier version goes a long way. With slightly rounder toes, for a classic ivy style, or a more chiselled last for a city styled look. of curse, derbies also come in a huge variety of models and styles, from brogues to plain toe bluchers.

John Lobb Bootmaker began in 1849 when a young, lame Cornish farm boy named John Lobb walked to London and later traveled to Australia during the gold rush to make innovative boots with hollow heels for miners.
